Joseph A. Aschebrock
My Name is Joe Aschebrock, I'm an Artist currently residing in Minneapolis, MN.
I work in Mixed Medium, which for me means a lot of pencil, crayon, pen, ink, marker, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, sandpaper, UV stabilizers, fixatives, varnishes and found materials.
My work is process driven and tends towards the abstract and figurative.
Through the building up & removal of line & color I begin to see form and composition. I then pull images out and further refine them. I Obsessively trace the images, repeatedly building and occasionally reducing the layers together through sanding and scraping. Incrementally I achieve a desired balance of tension and release, of scrutiny and spontaneity.
I have found as an artist that the most significant tool in my process has not been technical proficiencies, the understanding of theories or an aptness to conceptualize work. It is Empathy. My ability to express emotion; to understand and convey the feeling of what it is to be human.
